Award-winning Jemez Pueblo artist Alvina Yepa created this large red etched feather and Avanyu pot. The pot is 7" in height by 9" in diameter. The horned or plumed serpent, known as the Avanyu in Tewa-Pueblo language, is cosmic in scope, its roles in mythology reaching across borders of peoples and cultures, symbolizing sustenance, endings, beginnings, transition and transformation. His home is in the waters all connected beneath the earth's surface, and he is associated with the four sacred directions. Alvina has included prayers within the pot to the four directions.
